ANS Provided: Innovative Backup Solution |

Morrison Products is a manufacturer and
distributor of blower motors for HVAC equipment designed for
consumer systems. The IT staff was suffering with multiple
backup issues: a slow, multi-functional backup server;
malfunctioning tape drive hardware; growing backup jobs
resulting in shrinking time windows to complete those backup
jobs; and unexpected backup jobs failures. Morrison
Products wanted a different, better solution that not only
relieved their immediate pain but also laid a solid
foundation for their disaster recovery plan.
Advanced Network Solutions (ANS) proposed a
dedicated Microsoft Windows backup server with disk-to-disk,
then disk-to-tape backup solution, proven to produce faster
and more reliable backups with multiple disaster recovery
options. Configuring backup jobs to move data from the
backup server to the disk array would reduce time to do
backup jobs for 2 reasons: 1. transferring data disk-to-disk
is faster than disk-to-tape and 2. disk-to-disk allows
simultaneous jobs to run at the same time. Time to restore
data would dramatically decrease as well because data would
be accessible online, rather than offsite on tape. Moving
backup data from the disk array to tapes provided long term
storage and the ability to take data offsite, a requirement
for Morrison Product’s disaster recovery plan. |

Thanks to ANS’s innovative backup solution
design, Morrison Products now benefits from increased backup
speed and quick access to backup data online which means
more reliable backups and better restore times. Also,
Morrison Products now has multiple levels of disaster
recovery: they can restore data from disk quickly in the
event of a server or PC failure, and in the event of a total
site disaster, Morrison Products has backup data available
offsite on tape. Finally, rather than working on
frustrating backup failures, the Morrison Products’ IT staff
has more time to focus on key IT projects and company
initiatives.
